We have stayed twice at the 'Oscar' and enjoyed each visit. The staff are so efficient and go out of their way to please. Lovely sea view double room and we will certainly stay there again. We would have liked a selection of wines as we are wine drinkers. The location is great and we enjoyed either travelling on the Oscar train or walking into Kyrenia. The hotel suited us very well. The room was spacious and well situated. It was equipped with a kettle, cups and spoons, for making hot drinks, however very little drinking water provided, which even after we asked for more was never replaced. The security guards actively discouraged food or drink to be taken in to the hotel, which made it difficult to get tea, coffee, milk, water etc in to make drinks. We were made very welcome during our recent stay. The staff were always incredibly helpful, the facilities were great. It was wonderful to be able to have a choice of pools in which to swim as well as a private beach area. The taxis to and from the centre of Kyrenia were usualy very prompt and always very reasonably priced. First time visit to Northern Cyprus. Oscar Resort was just perfect for kids with its pools. Very friendly staff who accommodated any small issues we had. I would recommend this hotel for its cleanliness, friendly staff, wonderful buffet breakfast and location to many off resort tourist attractions.We were very pleased to find that the meat served in Northern Cyprus is Halal. Very good accomodation, evening meals not very good, breakfast very good although not really to English tastes. Hotel maintenance awful, mini bar didn't work on arrival and countless requests were ignored by staff, after about 3 days the mini bar was replaced but wasn't tested so still didn't work, own investigation revealed no power at the plug, simple really, after informing the staff several times what was actually wrong the fault was finally fixed. Overall a good holiday but certain things could be improved. The Hotel seems to be under a refurb but the pool areas and sunbeds are very tired and in need of urgent attention. When we went for breakfast regardless of time, there were many tables not laid out for guests, despite the fact that there was several members of staff that appeared to be doing nothing. The welcome was warm and polite. Good English to communicate. The room we have got was beautiful but didn't fit our special needs (staircase inside). The replacement was just as good, overlooking the sea side, clean, good AC. Cleaning and maintenance had been made to fit our convenience. We had a 2 level gallery room which was really nice with a beautiful sea view. The beds could have been more comfortable. We were the first guests after a full renovation of the room. 2 of the 3 outdoor pools were open but unfortunately the wave pool wasn't open and the small beach was being worked on. The accommodation was excellent and food as good as buffet service can be. Staff excellent very helpful and attentive. The rooms were warm comfortable and of a good standard, the only slight grumble was the fact that although a kettle and cups were provided for making hot drinks the tea, coffee etc had to be bought from reception so take your own. Our Club Balcony room overlooking the 'wave' pool was a good size and accommodated 3 peoplecomfortably. The seaviews from the balcony were lovely.The bathroom needed updating and the downstairs lounge could do with more lighting - some people like to read in bed and this was impossible. The customer care we received from the guest relations before we arrived was great, we had some requests before we arrived and they were all taken care of just as we asked.On arrival at the hotel, we were given our keys and were upgraded to lovely 2 level seaview rooms right next door to each other which was a lovely start to our holiday. My husband and I took our daughter on holiday and chose to visit northern cyprus recently and we stayed at the Oscar Hotel. We loved it!! We were originally shown to a room that had three single beds instead of the 2 doubles we'd asked for, so that was a slight inconvenience; in addition, we were told that it would be several days before we could switch to a better room due to the hotel being booked to full capacity. We arrived late evening and were greeted by curtious, friendly hotel staff. The room was on two levels. The lower had a king size bed with flat screen TV. The upper was elevated by 3 steps and housed a brilliant bathroom and large lounge, again with tv and mini-bar. Patio doors led onto a balcony which had sea views in two directions and overlooked the main pool. After a shaky start we enjoyed our stay very much. My main concern was that although we booked October 2010 and stated that we wanted to be next to or above our daughter and children we were actually put in the next block - NOT what we wanted! There were empty rooms all around so I think the booking staff do not take on board what people want. The staff are a good team and helpfull, the reception area is good but with tired furniture, the rooms are really in need of TLC. The food ok. The grounds are nice and the view of the med is great, go outside to get to Kyrenia and you might think your in a war zone with trash and part built or empty buildings strewn with rubbish all around. The hotel is a bit isolated from Kyrenia centre and it is quite obvious that the management want you to stay on site, where prices are somewhat inflated. The pools though are fantastic but the water slide times of operation are regulated by an attendant who had a dictatorial complex. We spent a week here in September 2010 having motored up from the south. The hotel took a little bit of finding as we had never been to North Cyprus before but once there, it was well worth it. The balcony room overlooking the port @ £24 a night bed & breakfast was very good value, the room etc. was well maintained and the choice of breakfast food was too good to miss. Wonderful infrastructure , swimming pools and grounds with wonderful sea views. Approach from land side dreadful. hidden away behind half finished high rise apartments and a derelict demolition site. Bedrooms nice but if overlooking grounds then suffer badly from hotel noise as all entertainment takes p[lace on veranda below accommodation rooms. Having never been to Northern Cyprus, we looked at all the hotels inthe Kyrenia area which would offer good facilities and for our 14 year old teenager. Upon choosing to book a week at the Oscar Resort this August, my husband and I were so excited about how smart it looked and how much it had to offer for our young children. The hotel has a lot of potential. The new rooms around the Y-shaped pool are really nice. Book these rooms! Also the main building is quit good. But the gallery rooms are old and very noisy.In all the rooms work needs to be done. Showerhead broken, no shaving electricity, leaking airco, etc. Even the King-suite has these things to fix. We had two rooms here when my son and family came to Cyprus iat the end of June,We normally stay at the Malpas, but decided to have a change. We booked the Oscar Resort for a family holiday with our two boys, and just wanted a week in the sunshine in a hotel with enough stuff to entertain the children. We certainly got the sunshine - North Cyprus was really hot at the end of July!!The resort gardens were nice and the grounds well kept, and I felt happy to let the boys run around without worrying about them all the time. Nice set up. Variety of swimming pools (3) ideal for the kids. Bungalow was adequate for two people but sofa bed for two more was a bit basic. Self catering facilities were basic too. As a base to explore is was ideal but a car is essential. Reception needs the air-con repairing too. Air-con in the room was a life saver. Good value if you're not too fussy. Pleasant staff.... more
We had great holiday at Oscar Hotel in Kyrenia. it was one of the best holidays we had with my boyfriend. Staff was fun and helpful. Rooms were clean and daily was cleaned. Food and drinks were not too expensive than outside. Pools were even greater. we enjoyed it a lot.There are things that could be better. With late bookings I guess you get what you pay for, and our break at Oscar Resort Hotel was pretty much on the money. We wanted a cheap spring break in the sunshine, and thought northern Cyprus would be cheaper than south Cyprus, which turned out to be partly true. We were impressed with all the facilities, the lovely little amphitheatre near the water the three outdoor pools and the indoor pool which was so luxurious and reminded me of a Turkish Bath. We loved that food and drink were available throughout the day as we tend to do things at odd hours. We had a self-catering flat in the pink court. When we arrived in October, the Oscar Resort had obviously been used long and hard during the summer. Our room's carpet needed a really good clean, and the toilet leaked, but this was fixed on the first day. Bathroom could have been cleaner, and grout needed replacing. Luke and I have stayed at the Oscar Resort 3 times and enjoyed it every time. There are 4 pools on the premises, including an indoor one. The indoor pool was a little busy, leaving the outdoor pools comfortable for sunbathing. My husband and I booked a villa this trip finding it adequate for our needs. We have just come back from a great value holiday on the outskirts of Kyrenia. Booked a last minute sunshine holiday and it was one of the best holidays I ever had. Me and 3 girlfriends took off and stayed at the Oscar Resort which was just fantastic. The rooms were luxurious with plenty of space. We took our holiday in TRNC for a week in the sun before the school rush, as we have two girls under the age of 5. Couldn't believe it when we got upgraded to a suite, and it did give us all extra space. Very clean too.Buffet style dinner was useful as it meant the girls could pick their own food (with help) and I think they actually ate more as a result. (The younger one is normally fussy.) Took a self catering apartment in the Pink Court at oscars for the family to save money on the summer holiday. The 'mini villa' was in need of some renovation and the kitchen was small with only two rings to cook on. We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in North Cyprus. I was worried about taking a 4-year old but he loved it and there was so much for us all to do. The Oscar Resort is huge and has the best facilities. It has the only wave pool in North Cyprus, and my son loved the toy train. Oscar Resort Hotel is OK hotel, but not best. Registration took a long time, and staff did not speak German, only little English. The restaurant menu was OK but not very good choice, and sometimes cold food was served. There was not much leisure activity, and there were no good shops close to the hotel, but Kyrenia town is close and you can walk there. Went to Oscar Resort on short winter break with old mates, having stayed in TRNC before. Enjoyed the heated indoor pool, health club, sauna, steam room, bars, beers. Food good if not exceptional, staff friendly and not rushed. My bedroom needed redecorating, but it was clean and comfy.
