My husband and I booked the Colony Hotel for what we hoped would be a luxurious get away. Our first impressions of the hotel were that it was beautifully decorated, clean and expensive looking. All of these impressions proved to be correct, including the 'expensive' part. We had paid a lot to stay at the hotel, but didn't quite expect everything to be really expensive. The drinks were astoundingly high in price! That said, the hotel was good quality and quite a treat. The hotel was in a great location... more
We stayed here for a weekend and although the room and public areas were 5* we felt that the breakfast was not. The Conaro beach club which you can visit free of charge and get transport to is well worth a visit. We had lunch at the pool bar which was very tasty. We had gone B&B so that we good try out the restaurants in the harbour area which were well worth a visit. We have also stayed in the Rocks hotel in Kyrenia which is a much better place to stay and the buffet meals are outstanding.... more
The reception staff were unaware of the content of the service documnets in the rooms. The reception staff were not fluent in English and had difficulty understanding my problems.I was disappointed that there were no facilities for arranging tours of the area. The third bed in our room was a temporary camp bed.The staff were unable to locate a non slip mat for the shower for two daysThe staff were unable to provide details of local church servicesI was disappointed to find that the advertised shuttle... more
In general the overall standard was not what we expected for the price. Some of the staff were pleasant in their manner, but some were surly and the standard of English was limited.Male receptionist very abrupt in his manner.Roof top pool and bar very nice.there is evidence of poor maintainence and cleanliness The breakfast bar nowhere near 5 stars. no linen serviettes, limited choice of food, and having to pay extra for bacon.Beverage prices over the top.No tea or coffee in rooms. Definately not... more
Hi all, my wife booked a short trip as a surprise for my birthday last month and we booked into The Colony hotel which seemed to come highly recommended on several websites. She booked over the telephone with Go North Cyprus company and we had a smooth flight and a pretty enjoyable transfer from the airport too.Our bedroom was really nice. Very comfortable and proabably cleaner than most other hotels we've visited in Europe but for the high price we paid, we had expected no less really. While at... more
I stayed on a half board basis -the buffet breakfast was lavish but at the evening meal I was a little put out to be told that that I had been given the wrong menu and had a far more limited choice on the half board menu. The service IS 5-star and the hotel is a very short walk from the town and Kyrenia Harbour.Although I did not have my children with me, it was obvious that the attitude is very child friendly - there is valet parking - the staff were friendly - the room was good and clean. I would... more
Very good hotel, extremely clean and very central. Roof pool area and bar very attractive. Rooms very spacious and well equipped, staff very professional. Slight downside was that the breakfast was not up to the standard of a 5 Star Hotel. Choice was very limited, croissants were not very fresh and cold. You could get additional items (eg bacon) but this had to be paid for separately. Overall, very good value for money.... more
Most hotels like to market themselves as comfort personified, with lovely attentive and friendly staff. Ive travelled the world over the years and I can honestly say only very few hotels actually live up to their marketing websites and pamphlets. Thats exactly why I was so incredibly pleased when we arrived at the Colony Hotel. No sooner had we walked in, the staff were going out of their way to make us comfortable after our journey travelling. We were shown to our room which was very clean, tidy... more
The Colony hotel is a beautiful place to visit and stay but you must remember that it is a town centre hotel in the middle of a busy place with an excess of high rolling gamblers and impressing the local glitterati. If this sounds like your kind of thing then you'll really enjoy your time here. When we first arrived we were more than impressed at the hotel itself. It was immaculately presented, with a very relaxing but professional atmosphere. They certainly knew what they were looking to achieve... more
Wonderful ambience and very attentive staff at all levels. We live in Turkey and speaking a little Turkish may have helped in this respect. Rooms were fine and well appointed albeit with perhaps a little too much furniture making it seem a bit crowded. Our room on the second floor looked toward the sea at the rear and was extremely quiet with no noise from the busy road in front of the hotel. The roof top pool was lovely but I guess could be a little overcrowded in the height of the season but in... more
We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Colony Hotel.Excellent choice, right in the centre of town.Beautifull roof-top pool with bar and eating facilities. Hotel definitely 5 star. Pool loungers wide and very comfortable, with umbrellas and towels supplied. Breakfast was very good with very attentive staff. Most things available. Only down side was that if you wanted bacon on your breakfast, there was an extra charge which you would not have expected in a five star hotel.Eggs etc. were all included... more
We stayed in the Colony Hotel for 2 nights. The rooms were fab 2 TV's, 2 Mini-bars, internet access the facilities were faultless, the staff were very polite and friendly and the food was fantastic. The pool area was very relaxing and the roof bar had great views. Maid service twice a day but respected your privacy is you put the 'do not disturb' sign on the door.I would gladly return back to the Colony Hotel for my next relaxing weekend away.Thankyou... more
My wife and i have recently returned from a weeks stay at the colonly and thoughly enjoyed ourselves. The room we had was a good size and very clean as you would expect from a hotel with this star rating, the general apperance is very high quality without being to overindulgent. The breakfast was very good and had an ample spread to sort all tastes, the only down side is that for the amount of people the hotel caters for there are not really enough sun lounges around the pool on the roof, you need to... more
We stayed in the colony for 4 days. First the positive things: Excellent located in the city of Kyrenia, large rooms with first-class furniture and outstanding breakfast. But unfortunately there were some issues which avoid to feel us comfortable: Horrible prices at the Mini bar (€ 10,-- for 0,25 liter vitamin drink), striclty forbiddance to take any mineral water to our room (if you try the hotel staff stops you and withdraw water) and some of the waiters are arrogant (if you are not a VIP).... more
Stayed at Colony Hotel. Very good except for the prices in their bar which was always empty because of the high prices. Why pay 12 TL for a beer when down the road it was 3. The hotel never advertised any events they were having ( ie Live band, Cinema night ) Other than I would go back. very clean Very good staff and great location. GoNorthCyprus was spot on with the transport arrangements which worked like clockwork. I have already recommend you and will definately use you again.... more
The Colony Hotel is right in the centre of Kyrenia, really easy to simply walk out the door and explore. Lobby areas, lounges and bars very smart, glitzy feel, a touch of glamour. Once inside, traffic noise disappears, you feel like you're on a cruise ship! Our sea facing room was spacious, nice and light, and spotlessly clean. Bed was large and comfortable. Quiet too at all times. Food was excellent at all meals we had, breakfast especially tasty, and local town centre and harbour restaurants are... more
with few exceptions this hotel offered all the amenities you come to expect of a five-star. The location is great, only a few minutes walk to the Harbour. The hotel lobby is grand and luxurious-looking with mostly helpful staff waiting to attend to you. It is especially nice to come into the cool marbled interiors after a long day trekking about under the hot sun. The rooms are pleasantly decorated, room service works. The highlights for us were the wonderful Turkish breakfasts in the morning,... more
Stayed h/b excelent food on roof terace, rooms great, staff superb. Enjoyed the beach bar its close so the journey by bus is not a problem. kyrenia is ok but needs a tidy up the harbour area is lovely to sit at and watch the world go by with a beer. For a quieter bar turn right out of hotel walk about 1/2 mile to a lovely garden bar/restaurant thursday is a good night.only problem smoking throughout hotel even in restaurant and bars.could do with some music live in the barWILL go back to this hotel... more
After escaping from the Oscar "resort" we were very happy to arrive in a real hotel environment. This hotel is obviously very popular and with good reason-great pool, restaurant, staff, rooms, nothing too much trouble, definitely go back! The Colony Hotel has amenities and staff to make your holiday perfect, don't waste your time with the four star properties, having visited two of them they would be lucky to have 2 stars anywhere else.... more
June and I stay in hotels of various sorts all over the world. Its not unusual to find that the bigger and more expensive they are, the harder they fall. Not so this gem. Although there was nothing amazingly special about the room or the food; both were fine, thats all, the 'make you want to go back factor' was the way the staff all worked for us to make the four day stay such a joy. In so doing, they work for and with each other, almost like it was one family. This makes you feel like a special... more
We had difficulty choosing a hotel for our New Year break in Kyrenia, but eventually we decided on the Colony, and we're glad we did. My husband and I travel a lot for business, so we like to check in and chill out with a minimum of fuss. The Colony rooms are furnished in international business style, which for me is home from home, but does ensure you get a comfortable bed, decent bathroom and tv (if your Turkish is good!). We upgraded to a Residence Suite, which gave us more elbow room and a nice... more
The Colony Hotel is nice, yes, nice I think is the word to describe it. It is not 5 star elegance that one finds in the opulent and enormous hotels that are built today all around the world. It has more of the feel of the hotels of 1960's Europe - which is not to say that it is such a bad thing! However, two things let the hotel down badly. First was the food, which was decidely average. The second was the hotel's unwillingness to provide areas in the hotel for non-smokers.The restaurant's idea to... more
Loved the Colony Hotel. Met some great people here, five star rooms, breathtaking lobby straight from the Arabian nights and the hotel is right in the heart of Kyrenia. It was all we wanted. We ate out every night somewhere different as there were so many great bars and outdoor restaurants around the marina and old castle, and walked back quite safely in the early hours. My girlfriend loved our room and wants to return for our honeymoon – sometime. It had a balcony over the street and we opened the... more
We spent two weeks at this hotel, and cannot find fault with the place at all. It is next to a Casino, which is not a problem, and right in the centre of Kyrenia – just step outside the door and you are right in the heart of this charming old city. We came here to explore the whole area and found many wonderful places and some incredible ruins. The Abbey at Bellapais was one of our favourite places to walk to. The isolated beaches were great for walking on and there was always a pleasant breeze.... more
The Colony is probably the best hotel in central Kyrenia, and we were a bit worried that we'd be expected to dress for dinner or such. In fact, the staff are courteous and the mood relaxed, and when we went in october it was quiet too. (Not half term week). The breakfast buffet was good, and I enjoyed a fresh omlette every morning - set me up for walking and shopping in Kyrenia. It was a nice touch that one day a girl came to every table to check we were enjoying our stay. We stayed B&B, so we ate... more
I was recommended the Colony Hotel by friends who had stayed before and had a wonderful time. We were not disappointed by the hotel, or by North Cyprus which is really beautiful. The sun shone every day, the scenery is very pretty (shame about the litter) and the sea is an amazing blue and very clear. The holiday for me was all about diving so the warm clear water was perfect with great visibility. We visited caves and saw turtles, octopus and loads of corals. On one trip we went to the site of... more
The Colony is a very popular hotel in Kyrenia (Girne), and we had enjoyed staying here last year. This year I brought my son and his two boys for a family holiday that didn't just revolve around a beach. The service at the Colony is impeccable, the rooms lovely, the restaurant excellent, and the location in Kyrenia means everything is just outside your door. My grandsons had great fun exploring the harbour area, especially the castle, and eating large lunches followed by even larger ice creams despite... more
We visited Kyrenia with our two young children, aged 6 and 4 and stayed at the Colony Hotel. The first thing I have to say is the staff absolutely loved the children and could not have made us more welcome. The room was really nice and well furnished. We went up to the rooftop pool and it had the most gorgeous views of the town and harbour. There was also a really nice bar which did snacks for us and the girls which were delicious, and they always remembered what we had to drink – very professional.However... more
If you arrived at this 5 star hotel anywhere else in Europe in shirts and flip-flops, they'd throw you out. The Colony is a top notch hotel with great service, and at prices you'd pay for a grotty 3 star in central London. Amazing!OK, beyond the price, the Colony feels like a top hotel. It's the real deal; well-schooled staff happy to help carry your bags and open doors, suitably palatial decor beyond the grand entrance, spacious rooms, the lot. The hotel was restored from an old building, and clearly... more
This was my first visit to Kyrenia and I really did not know what to expect. Everything was better than I hoped for. The hotel was a luxury hotel – spacious rooms, big comfortable beds and spotless bathrooms. The staff give true 5-star service. They see your needs and do their job without being asked, such as bringing us more pool towels, and they are always smiling and friendly. My first impression of the hotel was alarm as we were on a busy street, right next door to a casino. I had come to Kyrenia... more
