Dome Hotel Reviews (31 Reviews)
As in previous reviews, the location of this hotel is currently second to none in Kyrenia. We arrived late on Saturday evening. Our room, number 403, was very small, dismal and quite dated although we did have a sea view. In the light of day, you could see that the room had seen far better days and it was very tatty. We did not expect the hotel to be 4* by UK standards but we felt as if we were staying in a hostel. We opted for the half board option. The food was buffet style and the food... more
I think its my fourth visit. We had a lovely room with two balcony's, one was large enough for us to entertain friends for a glass before going out to dinner. I love the sea pool. Many thanks everyone at the Dome.... more
The Dome Hotel was all I could have wished for. My room overlooked the sea, and I was lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves breaking below me. A comfortable room, newly refurbished, a delicious buffet breakfast made all the better by helpful waiters who served me at my table because I find it difficult to walk without my stick - but the highlight was the seawater swimming pool, with its easy to manage steps, which meant that half my day was spent in the sea! It had long been my wish to visit... more
friendly staff very helpfull. great location near the ruins of a castleclean big room but not exclusive.Overall, good value. The casino inside the hotel is noisy and small. but two min. walk other bigger casinosi have nothing else to say so:We do everything we can to protect our hotel reviews from fraudulent submissions that affect ratings and rankings. In the rare case that we find a fake review, we remove it immediately and take steps to ensure that the hotel in question is penalised in our rankings... more
We agree that the hotel is in need of some refurbishment but there there was a lot of work in progress. The staff went to a lot of trouble to satisfy any request. Our room was comfortable and kept very clean; fresh towels and sheets each day. One critism was that the air conditioning was turned off. They said it would be turned on in May. As we were there during a hot spell it was difficult sleeping at first. There was lots of space to reax either on the terrace, by the pool, or in the indoor lounges... more
The location is fantastic being only a couple of minutes walk from the old harbour, the staff were helpful, pleasant and efficient. We had a room overlooking the sea, clean and a good size with fresh bedlinen every day.The food is buffet only but there is a wide selection to choose from and it was all very good. We were there for just a short break but I would certainly go again. The hotel was originally built in the thirties and some parts of it are showing their age but there is extensive renovation... more
I stayed at the hotel 20-27 January 2010. The first impression created was not good as paint was peeling off the building prior to entering reception. Once inside carpets were old and stained. The receptionist was pleasent but had to walk up 3 flights of stairs as lift was out of order. The room was small but adequate but once again in need of renewal from carpet, bed to bathroom fittings some of which were rusty and waterflow was weak. In their favour is that the room was clean and kept in that... more
My family and I tend to travel abroad for our holidays as often as possible as both my husband and I have decent jobs and want our children to see as much of the world as possible, so we very rarely go to the same place twice, let alone twice in two years! I'd done some on-line research and have to say that the resort sounded great, probably a little bit too good actually so I was a bit nervous that I had hopes that were unrealistic, however on both occasions we were treated to the same fantastic... more
The Dome is in a prime location with fabulous views and short walk to lovely old harbour of Kyrenia. However, it is now looking very shabby and in desperate need of a revamp. Our bathroom looked unclean due to worn-out tiles and decor. Toilet flushed very badly. The bed was okay only. The light and telephone sockets were all hanging off the walls. Why no freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast? We felt it was way overpriced for what it was - not sure how it retains four stars. We love the Dome... more
We only stayed one night but check in lady was not the most welcoming. Room was ok, but bathroom in need of a DEEP clean. Pool good but surrounding areas are so tired its a real shame. We had a light lunch in the hotel which was good and quickly served. We did not eat evening meal at the hotel because we had booked a table at a local restaurant.I would stay again, because I am local but if I were coming on holiday, I would be very disappointed. Sorry Dome, you need to smarten yourselves up.I... more
The position of the Dome Hotel is superb being right on the waterfront, close to all the good restaurants and although on a busy road the noise disappears as soon as you enter its portals. The hotel is aging well and will need an upgrade very soon but doesn't let you down on any front.. The rooms are not large but clean , the beds comfortable and the plumbing works. The balcony on your room gives peace to both the early morning and the evening setting of the sun. The hotel is spacious with a magnificent... more
Having lost my darling husband just last year, I was not planning to travel abroad alone, but friends invited me to visit them in North Cyprus and I decided to try it. They only have an apartment so I opted to stay at the Dome hotel in Kyrenia, since I was looking for somewhere a little more 'homely' than a big resort hotel. My sea-view room was just right for me, although I suspect a couple might have found it rather on the small side. The decor was a little dated, but the view more than made up... more
Great swimming pools, both freshwater and sea pools. Air conditioning in the bedroom was the best I have ever come across. Lovely to keep the doors open at night and hear the sea lapping below. Breakfast not brilliant but was okay if you were selective about what to have. No entertainments but that suited us fine. The room was kept very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The mini bar was useful for storing other cold stuff. Would definitely stay there again.... more
Before our holiday to North Cyprus, I decided to go on the Internet and look at some hotel reviews, which I had not done before. What surprised me was how people seemed to expect every hotel to be absolutely perfect! Any of us who used to book their holidays from printed brochure will be more than aware that hotel star ratings vary from country to country, and that what you see in the picture is always the best view of any hotel, resort or bedroom.I booked the Dome Hotel well aware that this was... more
The location and staff excellent. Facilities are what you would expect. The rooms need an upgrade they are looking tired around the edges. In general a good place to chill out, central to the Town with a fantastic sea water pool.Stayed two times previously noticed this time the standard of breakfast had gone down considerably in the choice available. It is noticeable that the hotel caters for the "older person" with few children evident so do not expect parties round the pool at night.... more
we arrived to find very dated bedrooms, albeit with a seaview. The communal areas are fine but the poolside has very tatty anti slip carpet in bright blue which could do with replacing. the drinks area overlooking the pool is very pleasant and the staff are friendly. Our friends bedroom had a very odd bathroom with the basin overlapping the loo! Very tired decor to this and the bedrooms, thought the beds were comfortable.Breakfasts were perfectly nice though non of us thought that Nescafe was acceptable.... more
The dome hotel is like going back to see your elderly aunt - safe comfortable a little tired. But still life in the old girl yet - service good - staff always pleasant and smile a lot food ok - turkish traditional - evenings relaxing entertaining - I travelled alone I did not feel out of place sitting in the bar/cafe watching the world go by.I will go back again in December - I have had a love for Cyprus since 1995I am content there - the pace of life the beauty of the island the people... more
The Dome IS Kyrenia. Its position is perfect, the swimming pools are lovely, the breakfast is excellent, the rooms are comfortable.....but.... Having stayed here on previous occasions not much has changed, and that might be the problem for anyone who has never been to North Cyprus, and who might expect a spick and span modern hotel. The Dome's charm is its quaintness, but it could also be its downfall. Sit on your balcony watching the sun set couldn't be more picturesque. Then you notice the... more
We had 4 nights at the Dome hotel which occupies an unrivalled position close to the harbour and on the sea front, with an excellent swimming pool situated on a natural rock promontory. However, that is the end of the good things we can say about the hotel. The building is very ugly, and the rooms are small and tired in their decor (think swirly carpets!). The minute bathrooms have been annexed from the rooms themselves. We found the staff were quite complacent at best, and hostile reception staff... more
We arrived late at night at the Dome Hotel and found there had been a slight mix up in that my nephew and myself had been accommodated in one room whereas I had thought I had booked for two rooms. However the receptionist was very helpful and found a room where my nephew could spend the night, and later on found a very nice room with a view of the sea where he stayed for the rest of our visit. I was doubtful whether it was the agency or myself that had caused the mix up. It may have been me. The... more
We spent one night at the Dome in mid-May. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the porters who helped me negotiate the wild traffic in front to the hotel. We had a corner room with two terraces over the Med. Fortunately, the gentle sea breezes cooled the room, because the air conditioner did not. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom facilities were adequate. This hotel was built in 1935 and the physical plant shows it. The general feeling of the physical components was tired, in... more
We spent a week in April at the Dome. The location is excellent, the accommodation clean and comfortable, the staff very helpful. Very good value, in spite of the current pressure on sterling. Two small things would have made a big difference. First, four stars surely means an electric shower, rather than the bath-tap adapter (which may save water but is almost impossible to keep at a comfortable temperature). Second, real coffee should be offered at breakfast (for some reason, instant coffee is... more
My wife and I travelled to Kyrenia to last month for a weeks break to get away from the stress of our very demanding jobs. We both work in the medical industry and can't ever find a moment to ourselves so when we saw an opportunity we jumped at it.After a quick look around online we decided we'd visit the Dome Hotel as it looked quite nice and fairly relaxing, which was just what we were looking for. We certainly weren't disappointed either. We arrived at night so we couldnt appreciate the surroundings... more
I have stayed at the Dome, the last 2 years.it has a great location, in centre of town, the sun terraces go right out to the sea. the staff are helpfull and friendly, the buffet breakfast is first class. Good chioce of local restuarants, serving delicious food. The drive to the karpas, was out of this world, using local car hir, which is excellet value. The tours are good value, with Bellepaise Abbey being the star attraction for me. i can't wait to return.... more
We have stayed at the Dome Hotel for the last five years, simply because we like it so much! The staff are friendly and welcoming, and they even recognise us now, and are always happy to fetch a drink or a cup of coffee. The restaurant at the Dome suits us nicely with a choice of well-cooked meals, although we also have a couple of favourite local restaurants nearby that we visit too. Our main reason for coming back each year is the Dome's location in the centre of town, so you can walk to the restaurants,... more
Booked a January break at the Dome, to recover from gloom of Britain. Enjoyed the sunshine, polite staff, location in town. Disliked the pushy gamblers at dinner, tired look to our room, broken safe which had t be replaced, expensive drinks, slow bar service. Food was not much to write home about, so we ate out in town, much better. Turkish TV was rubbish, but then again, no mention of credit crunches... To my mind, the Dome is past its best, as we walked past far better looking hotels in Kyreni... more
My husband and I spent a month in North Cyprus to escape the dreadful winter weather and North Cyprus was a good choice. We were however very disappointed with the Dome Hotel. It was very quiet with mostly retirees like ourselves there, so no noisy screaming children, but the hotel is desperate for some TLC. Everything is tatty, tired and at the end of its useful life. Our room desperately needed decorating and the bathroom was shabby. It was obviously once a luxury hotel and it would really not... more
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Dome Hotel for over a week. We decided on the Dome Hotel because of its location and pool area. I love to sunbathe and swim, so the pool area was a necessity. The hotel was rated 4 stars. However, we soon found out it should have been rated lower. While the area was beautiful and the common rooms beautiful, the hotel rooms were bare minimum and smoky. The pool area had comfortable loungers, umbrellas, and pool was salt. In December it was the perfect time to... more
Staying at the Dome was like staying in an old club, all creaking floors, soft carpets, and unobtrusive staff. The Dome was the best hotel when the British ruled here - it still has that slightly musty, old fashioned feel, despite its Art Deco style curves and corners, and some of the guests looked like they had never left! However, if you book the Dome knowing that, which we did, it takes on a charm of its own.Our room was old-fashioned but comfortable, and the bathroom clean if a little tired.... more
My husband and I run a family business as chartered accountants in south Wales and booked a mid year holiday to get away from the stresses of work for a week. We'd first thought about a 2 week break but decided it was too long away from the family firm, and how glad we were that we didn't. Having never visited north Cyprus before we had no idea what hotels were good and what ones were to be avoided. The local travel agent said the Dome hotel would suit a couple of professionals wanting to get away... more
I very much enjoyed my stay at the Dome in Kyrenia. I wanted a smaller, friendly hotel as I was travelling on my own, rather than a big resort hotel where it's hard to meet people. My room was comfortable and had a lovely sea view. It was clean and airy, and had a small but perfectly acceptable bathroom ensuite. I was very grateful for the air conditioning, as it got very hot in June. The hotel staff knew I was on my own and went out of their way to make me feel welcome, from ensuring I had a good... more
