Dome Hotel Review - 20 of 93 Reviews

Having lost my darling husband just last year, I was not planning to travel abroad alone, but friends invited me to visit them in North Cyprus and I decided to try it. They only have an apartment so I opted to stay at the Dome hotel in Kyrenia, since I was looking for somewhere a little more 'homely' than a big resort hotel.

My sea-view room was just right for me, although I suspect a couple might have found it rather on the small side. The decor was a little dated, but the view more than made up for that, and there was no noise from the traffic at all.

I enjoyed sitting on the terrace for breakfast in the sunshine, and the buffet food was very good indeed. I did not eat in the hotel at night, as my friends took me out to dinner every night. My favourite meal was up on the roof of a harbour restaurant (sorry. can't remember the name) in Kyrenia, where I had wonderful grilled fish.

I decided to stay in the hotel one day to give my friends a break for their weekly golf game, and I had a lovely time thanks to the staff who made sure I was OK about four times every hour! Beyond the pool is a natural rockpool and bathing area overlooking the sea, with a nice little cafe, which is a lovely spot to sit and have lunch. I didn't swim in the sea but rather envied those who did - it was a very hot day.

I saw a lot of Northern Cyprus thanks to my kind friends. We went to north Nicosia (Lefkosa), visited the market, and walked right up to the border, amongst the alleys of old ottoman houses. Everywhere you look, old churches have become mosques, (or in one case a Turkish bath house) so you find this mix of architecture and decor. We saw more of this in the walled part of old Famagusta, on a long but fascinating day trip.

Thanks to the kindness of my friends and the attentive staff at the Dome, I came home feeling relaxed and refreshed.
