This was my first time staying at the Altinkaya Hotel, even though I have been to North Cyprus more than once. I stayed for five days and I was very impressed with everything about the hotel, the staff were friendly and efficient and they were extremely hospitable making me feel very welcome throughout my stay. The Altinkaya has a range of accommodations available; you can chose from a bungalow, a villa or a single hotel room. I chose a single room, and I was very impressed with it. The price you pay will depend on the type of accommodation that you chose, and a room is the cheapest option. But it was very good value for money in Northern Cyprus. We stayed at the Altinkaya Holiday Village for a week recently and were given one of the studio rooms across from the main hotel. We found these to be quite nice and we were very pleased with the accommodations. There are 12 of these apartments situated around a pool, which was very peaceful and more or less out of the way of the majority of the guests, as most stay in the main hotel.We were less pleased with the quality of the food. Third visit to Northern Cyprus and I wasn't thrilled with this hotel. We arrived late in the evening and were shown to a room that wasn't very clean. The furniture and fixtures were stained and had a build-up of old grime that caused me to question our decision to stay here. I asked for a different room and we were shown to one only slightly less grimy. I still wasn't happy but it was very late so we made the best of it for one night. We enjoyed our stay, we thought the staff were very helpful and polite. The downfall was that our accomodation was very dated, we never looked forward to going back to our bungalow. The shower had a mind of it's own (whether to run hot or cold) and the furniture had definately seen better day's. Apparantly the only nice re-furbed bungalows are at the left of the villiage as you go in, so may be a good idea to request one of those. My husband, myself, our family and another family visited north Cyprus and booked to stay at the apartments over the road from the main part of the Altinkaya Holiday Village and were very impressed. We were particularly pleased with the peace and quiet of the apartment area and our kids loved the separate pool area that we had. I chose to stay in the Altinkaya on my second visit to North Cyprus and did not regret it at all. I stayed for one week and enjoyed the friendly and very hospitable atmosphere the hotel staff engendered. Most Guests seem to be on first name terms with each other and their hosts rather more quickly that one would find in other hotels. The Altinkaya Holiday Village offers cheap and cheerful accommodation, but how cheerful depends on whether you choose a hotel room, a villa and a bungalow. I opted for the hotel, and judging from other guest's comments, I got the best deal. My room was clean, airy and perfectly acceptable for the price. We booked a bungalow at the Altinkaya Holiday Village for one week, and were disappointed to find it was in dire need of renovation. Our bathroom had a leaking tap, a shower that had two settings, boiling or freezing, and cracked tiling that we actually taped up for safety.
