Dome Hotel Review - 45 of 93 Reviews

This is an older hotel situated in the heart of the North Cyprus town of Kyrenia, only a short distance from the harbour. It was built in the 1930's and it shows it's age in places but on the upside, the walls are solidly built – much better than they do today in modern hotels – meaning that when you are in your room, you never hear any noise from the street or from other rooms. The rooms at the Dome Hotel were kept clean and the service was excellent so even though the place could use a little updating, we're not complaining, as the benefits far outweigh the small inconveniences of an older hotel.

Our room was carpeted, quite large, and very comfortable. Each guest is provided with a pair of brand new slippers and the sheets and towels are changed daily. Our room was air-conditioned but we didn't notice a lot of noise from the air conditioner. It seemed to be very quiet in our room at all times. Besides the room being carpeted, the hallway outside is also, so you never hear people out in the hallway walking past like you do in hotels where the outside corridor is tiled. Besides being only a 2 or 3 minute walk from the harbour, where you have tons of restaurants, bars and various sight-seeing opportunities, the Dome hotel itself provides some entertainment if you don't feel like getting out. There are three pools. One is a regular pool but is quite large. One is a children's pool and the other is a natural rock pool. There's an outside bar for service around the pools. Also there are plenty of loungers for sunning and the bar provides towels for use around the pool so you don't have to mess with bringing them from your room. There are other bars located inside the hotel and also a casino. We didn't go to the casino at all, so I can't comment on it but since every other place in the hotel was well-maintained, I'm sure the casino was too

I can't comment on the dinner buffet as we never ate inside the hotel's dining room at dinner (there are so many great north cyprus restaurants around the harbour area, we chose to eat there instead) but I can tell you that the breakfast buffet was quite extensive and very good. The service in the dining room was great too, as it was everywhere else in the hotel throughout our stay. Most of the staff speaks English, so there wasn't much of a language barrier.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and the location is prime. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be within walking distance of the harbour area. I think some of the negative reviews about this hotel are unwarranted. It's an older hotel, so I'm not sure what they expect, but this place was spotless, the service is great, and the rooms are comfortable. We'll be back!
